This work was one of three paintings acquired on a trip to artists’ studios in Spain by then-Director Harris Prior in anticipation of the opening of MAG’s 1968 building, which was intended to showcase modern and contemporary art. Gerardo Rueda, one of the co-founders of the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca, Spain (inaugurated 1966) is well known within the context of mid-century Spanish abstract painting and sculpture. MAG loaned the painting to Rueda’s retrospective exhibition in Madrid in 1989. |
