| In the manner of Cesar Bagard of Nancy, second half 18th century. Carved in relief with birds and scrolling foliage, the hinged coffered lid enclosing a plain interior, on bun feet, with label '969' to the underside. The present casket is reminiscent of the work of César Bagard (1620-1704), court sculptor to duc Charles IV of Lorraine, who was known for his production of elegantly carved wooden caskets. |
