Edmund Adler (Austrian, 1876-1965)
Edmund Adler was born 15 October 1876 in Vienna, Austria. He trained in lithography for four years before spending three years in a graphic studio. From 1894 to 1903, he attended the Vienna Academy, becoming an assistant professor there in 1903. During World War I, Adler was a prisoner of war in Siberia. Adler’s work became popular in Vienna, Dresden and Brunn, and he was esteemed for his naturalism and innovative use of color in portraiture. His works were exhibited with both Austrian and Russian artists. Adler died in Mannersdorf on 10 May 1965. He is remembered for his genre paintings featuring children, which are favored by modern collectors.
