Details:

George W. Sotter (American, 1879-1953)
George W. Sotter was an American painter best known for Impressionist-style works. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but eventually made his name in Philadelphia. During his early years, Sotter painted the rivers and mills of his hometown, but as an adult, he was actually a stained glass artist with work that grew in importance during his life in Bucks County area which he’d discovered around 1902. Sotter later enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy and befriended artist Edward Redfield. Around 1919, he converted a 19th century stone barn into a studio and painted his landscape scenes of Bucks County. Sotter is well remembered for his paintings of the scenic towns, farms, mills, and valleys that make Bucks County such a welcoming destination.
