Details:
Theo Hios (Greek, 1908-1999)
Theo Hios was a Greek painter who moved to the U.S. to pursue a career in art. During his six-decade painting career, his style occasionally turned abstract, but he mostly hewed to expressive portraits and especially visionary views of nature that were sometimes reminiscent of Marsden Hartley. These landscapes often resembled the canyons and principles around Tripi, the small Greek village where he was born. In many of Hios’ works, he transformed his subjects into geometrical shapes invested with vibrant colors.
