Attributed to John Ferren (American, 1905-1970)
John Ferren was an American artist and educator. He was active from 1920 until 1970 in San Francisco, Paris, and New York City. Ferren was one of the few members of the American Abstract Artists to come to artistic maturity in Paris. He was an early member of The Club, an organization of Abstract Expressionists, and in 1955 served as its president. Through geometric abstraction, still life, and figure paintings, Ferren searched for ways to express moral truth. His early appreciation of Kandinsky and a fascination with Zen helped define the way he thought about painting.
