Details:
Andre Lhote (French, 1885-1962)
Andre Lhote was a French Cubist painter of figure subjects, portraits, landscapes, and still life. He was also active and influential as a teacher and writer on modern art. Lhote initially painted colorful landscapes in a Fauvist style, but his mature works are Cubist in manner. His most significant work was not as a visual artist, but rather as a writer who articulated Cubist theories and as an educator who influenced a generation of French artists.
