Circa 1868. Brazilian rosewood gothic style case. Original silvered 18-inch Astro dial has separate chapter rings for the hours, minutes, and seconds. Mercury jars are held in an etched steel framework. Signed pendulum, "Geo. A. Jones & Co Courtlandt St: New York"; engraved silvered beat scale. Weight driven brass movement. Note: George Jones was an American clockmaker who started his business New York in 1863. The George A. Jones Clock Company manufactured walnut parlor and wall clocks and a few large floor standing and wall regulators with fine quality movements. The company was shown in New York City directories at three addresses - No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 Courtlandt Street from 1864 to 1872. |
