Highest prices have been reached for works by Gilbert Stuart (the Anthenum version of George Washington, commissioned by the historic Astor Winthrop Chanler family), James McNeill Whistler ("Violet and Blue Among the Rollers," sold for the historic Wadsworth family), Edgar Payne ("Solitudes Enchantment," sold for the prominent Wehle family), William Wendt ("Patriarchs of the Forest," sold for the Strong family), and Jonas Lie ("In the Path of the Sun," commissioned by the well-known Sibley-Watson and Wolfe families). The extensive list of other prominent artists whose work has been sold by Cottone includes American artists Thomas Hart Benton, Walter Launt Palmer, Anthony Thieme, William Bradford and William Aiken Walker; European painters such as William Adolphe Bouguereau, Emile Munier, Alexandre Cabanel; and Russian artist Ivan Pokitonow.
